There have been 11 incidents involving prescription drugs being stolen from citizens in Benton recently. This isn’t exactly something new, but we wanted to call attention to this alarming fact due to the on-going problems we face in Arkansas concerning prescription drug abuse.
On 10/11/13, at approximately 6:34 PM, officers responded to Westside Pharmacy on report of a forged prescription. While in-route to the call, officers were informed the suspect was still on scene.
Upon their arrival, officers made contact with the suspect, identified as Chad Thompson (33 YOA), at the business. After an investigation, Thompson was subsequently placed under arrest without incident.

The Benton Police Department recently applied for a grant through the Central Arkansas Planning and Development District for school security improvements. It was announced recently that the grant for $15,000 had been approved and the check was presented to the school board and superintendent on 10/13.
On 9/29/13, at approximately 8:04 AM, officers responded to an address on Pearl Street in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival, they made contact with two victims who advised them a subject they knew as an acquaintance had broken into their home and physically assaulted them.
Detectives with the Benton Police Department arrested two suspects, Thomas Shirey (18 YOA) and Keith Moore (19 YOA), on 10/9/13 on additional charges stemming from an earlier incident on 10/2/13.

On Sunday, October 6th, officers responded to the 900 block of S. Market Street on report of a breaking or entering call. Upon their arrival, they made contact with the victim who advised that a suspect had busted the glass out of a window of their vehicle and done extensive damage to the dashboard of it.
