The Benton Police Department will conduct active intruder training from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, June 17 through Thursday, June 20 at Benton Junior High School. Nearby residents should be prepared to hear louder-than-usual noises—to include gunfire, music, and screaming.

There is no cause for alarm, however, according to Captain Kevin Russell.

Benton Police Department will host the annual “Hooked on Fishing” Derby for children 12 and under from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, June 19 at Sunset Lake in Benton. Registration is free and will begin at 8:30 a.m. the day of the event. All participants will need to bring a fishing pole and bait.

(Incident 02501) Benton Police Department detectives have issued an update regarding the pedestrian hit-and-run accident that occurred Saturday evening near Exit 118 on the north service road. As of Tuesday afternoon, the female remains in serious condition.

Benton Police Department responded to a 911 open line at approximately 10:30 p.m. Saturday just beyond the 118 exit on the north service road.  Officers discovered an injured female victim, 36, on the side of the roadway. She was transported via ambulance for treatment and remains in serious condition.

BNPD officers responded just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday to a report of an aggravated robbery at Slim Chickens, 7831 Alcoa Road. Upon arrival, officers made contact with five employees who were present during the incident. No injuries were reported.
