TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS DECREASED DURING BNPD’S ‘SLOW YOUR ROLL’ INITIATIVE
Benton police officers responded to fewer traffic accidents during the June “Slow Your Roll” initiative. However, though there was a slight decrease of citations for DWI, unsafe driving, and no seat belt violations, officers doubled the volume of speeding citations.
At approximately 4:05 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2017, officers with the Benton Police Department responded to Randel Street, near Highway 229, for a vehicle accident. While in route officers were notified that a suspect fled on foot from the scene.
Throughout July, officers with the Benton Police Department will be strolling through the city parks getting to know you while providing security during this month’s initiative “Popo In the Park.” The parks are a very safe environment for children and families currently, but there is always an increased usage during the summertime.&n
The Benton Police Department, along with law enforcement officers throughout Arkansas and the nation, have a simple message for everyone: If you are intoxicated from drugs or alcohol – don’t drive!
When, where and how fireworks can be used by the public has been set by the Benton City Council. The usage of fireworks by the public in the City of Benton will be allowed between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. from July 3 through July 5 without being in violation of the city’s noise ordinance.
At approximately 3:38 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2017, officers with the Benton Police Department responded to a two-vehicle accident at Arkansas Highway 5 and Leigh Street. Upon arrival, the driver of a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle, 72-year-old Jerry Lynn Garland of Bauxite was pronounced deceased at the scene.
