BNPD is investigating an incident resulting in an officer-involved shooting that occurred just after 8:15 p.m. Sunday. The suspect in the incident is deceased. Their identity is not being released at this time pending notification of next-of-kin. The involved officer did not suffer injuries.

Benton Police Department has placed a hold on suspect Nneka Seville, 31, of Benton, for the charge of Manslaughter- a Class C Felony- in the death of her 3-year-old son in February. Seville is currently being held without bond at the Pulaski County Detention Center on additional, unrelated charges.

The Benton Police Department and other local agencies will conduct active intruder training beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, June 20 through Friday, June 30 at Benton Junior High School. Nearby residents should be prepared to hear louder-than-usual noises—to include gunfire, music, and screaming.

There is no cause for alarm, however, according to Captain Eric Haworth.

BNPD: ONE ARRESTED, ONE WANTED IN CONNECTION WITH SHOOTING AT BENTON APARTMENT COMPLEX

Benton Police Department officers responded to multiple disturbances at Chapel Ridge Apartments Monday, including a shooting shortly after 7:30 p.m. that resulted in a 13-year-old female victim with a single gunshot wound to the leg. She remains under medical care but is considered stable.

BNPD TRAINING AIMED AT SUSTAINING, HONING FIREARMS PROFICIENCY

The Benton Police Department recently conducted a week of department-wide firearms training in a continued effort to maintain and hone firearms proficiency. Skills practiced during the intensive course are paramount for response to active intruders. It also served as preparation for the multi-agency active shooter course that will take place at local schools this summer.
