Benton Police Department is continuing its emphasis on positive community policing with the Police Actively Reaching Kids, or PARK, initiative throughout July. The month-long campaign will spotlight the continuous efforts of officers to build rapport with youth—and others— in the community.

Americans will soon celebrate the birth and freedoms of this country during Independence Day, and BNPD wants to emphasize the need to ensure a sober way home from your festivities. The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign will take place June 29- July 8. Citizens should expect to see increased enforcement on the roads and zero tolerance for impaired driving.

BNPD TO HOST “HOOKED ON FISHING” DERBY FOR KIDS

Benton Police Department will host the annual “Hooked on Fishing” Derby for children 12 and under from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23 at Sunset Lake in Benton. Registration is free and will begin at 8:30 a.m. the day of the event. All participants will need to bring a fishing pole.

DEATH OF NEWBORN LEADS TO MOTHER’S ARREST AND MURDER CHARGE

On June 5, 2018, detectives with the Benton Police Department were called to Saline Memorial Hospital to investigate the death of an infant born at approximately 24 weeks gestation. Their investigation led to a local motel where the medical call originated. It is believed the mother, Angela Miller, of Oregon, had injected methamphetamine while staying at the motel prior to the birth of her child.
