INVESTIGATION LEADS TO ARREST FOR NARCOTICS DISTRIBUTION

In response to citizen complaints, a recent investigation by BNPD’s Special Investigations Unit at 35 Azalea Circle in Benton led to evidence of methamphetamine, LSD, marijuana and other narcotics being distributed from the home.

As a result of the investigation, a search warrant was obtained and executed at the home on April 12, where Detectives seized over 2 ounces of methamphetamine, approximately .5 ounce of cocaine, over 1.5 pounds of marijuana, approximately .5 ounce of psilocybin mushrooms, multiple dosage units of assorted prescription pills, assorted drug paraphernalia and 14 firearms—including one that was confirmed to have been stolen from Garland County in 2017. Multiple packages containing varied amounts of unknown powders were also seized and sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for identification.

Jay Self, 37, of Benton, was taken into custody without incident at the residence and faces charges of Simultaneous Possession of Drugs and Firearms, Maintaining a Drug Premises within 1000 feet of a Drug Free Zone, Possession of Methamphetamine with the Purpose to Deliver, Possession of Cocaine with the Purpose to Deliver, Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance with the Purpose to Deliver, Possession of Marijuana with the Purpose to Deliver, Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance with the Purpose to Deliver, Possession of a Firearm by Certain Persons, Theft by Receiving (stolen firearm), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. All are felony charges. The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests and charges may be forthcoming.
