Benton, Ark.- March. 1, 2018— Benton Police Department announced today its March Toward Crime Prevention initiative. The month-long program is aimed at providing citizens with safety tips and guidelines to deter criminal activity and will run throughout March.

Chief Scotty Hodges said the campaign will consist of timely reminders as spring break approaches as well as everyday tips to keep yourself and loved ones safe.

“So many crimes are crimes of opportunity, and our goal is to remind everyone they have a part to play in not becoming a victim.” He added that BNPD gets daily reports involving this type of crime and that it’s worth refreshing your memory on what you can do to prevent them.

“Leaving doors unlocked and valuables in plain sight is a big one, and though we all know better, it’s easy to forget or be careless in our busy lives. The same caution is warranted for social media, and we will cover these topics and more throughout the month.”

Crime prevention tips will largely be shared via BNPD’s social media sites. Individuals are also welcome to contact the department with any questions at 501-776-5948 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. They can also stop by the department at 114 S. East St, Suite 100.

To report tips and other non-emergent information, contact BNPD at 501-778-1171 or 501-315-TIPS. Anonymous tips may also be sent via text to CRIMES (274637) with the keyword BNPD in the body of the message or at www.crimereports.com.
