On 8/17/14, at approximately 2:44 AM, officers with the Benton Police Department responded to the area of Miller Cove on report of a possible breaking or entering in progress.
Upon their arrival, officers located a suspicious truck sitting vacant in the street with the lights on. Further investigation revealed the truck had been stolen out of Little Rock. Also, a homeowner’s vehicle was found with a broken window and items were discovered stolen out of it.
After making contact with homeowners in the area, officers started searching the area for possible suspects. An alert homeowner noticed somebody hiding in some bushes by a house and alerted officers who then took him into custody. The suspect, later identified as Gregory Pointer (48 YOA) of Jacksonville, was apprehended by officers without incident. When arrested, officers found suspected marijuana, a pipe commonly used to smoke narcotics, and other evidence on Pointer.
Pointer is charged with Breaking or Entering, Theft by Receiving, Theft of Property, Criminal Mischief, Possession of Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Additionally, he is an active parolee out of the Arkansas Department of Community Corrections and had an active warrant out of their agency as well.
There was another suspect working in conjunction with Pointer during this crime who wasn’t located at the scene and detectives are working on leads in the case.
