ArquisJonesOn 9/16/15, at approximately 10:23 PM, an officer with the Benton Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for driving without headlights near the intersection of South St. and Jefferson Street.

The officer made contact with the driver, identified as Arquis Jones (31 YOA) of Benton, who told them his license was suspended and that he was on parole.  While speaking with Jones outside his vehicle, the officer noticed a white baggie bulging from inside one of his socks.

The officer then asked him to remove his sock and Jones started trying to conceal the item and resisted the officer’s attempts to remove it.  Jones continued to resist until the officer was able to get him in handcuffs and retrieve the item.

During the altercation, Jones dropped a waded up dollar bill that contained a white powdery substance, believed to be Cocaine, and also a baggie that contained a green substance believed to be Marijuana.  Jones was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Saline County Detention Facility for processing.

Jones was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance-Cocaine, Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana, Resisting Arrest, and Driving on Suspended License. Additionally, Jones is an active parolee out of the Arkansas Department of Community Corrections and a hold was placed on him for their agency.  This is an on-going investigation and additional charges could be possible.
