On 10/29/13, at approximately 12:10 PM, officers were dispatched to an address on Sunset Drive on report of a disturbance with a weapon. Upon officer’s arrival, contact was made with the victim who told them a subject had physically assaulted her and threatened her with a gun.
Contact was then made with the suspect in the case, Brandon Cockrell (29 YOA), outside the residence. While officers were speaking with Cockrell, he struck the officer with his fist and was subsequently placed under arrest. It was determined through the course of the investigation there was evidence of the alleged crime taking place and a shotgun was found at the scene.
Cockrell is charged with Aggravated Assault, Domestic Battery 3rd Degree, and Battery 2nd Degree (on an officer). The officer who was struck was treated at the scene and required no other medical care. This is an on-going investigation and additional charges could be possible.
