On 1/20/15, at approximately 1:14 AM, officers with the Benton Police Department were dispatched to a disturbance call at Bullocks Superstop (15536 I-30).
When officers arrived in the area, they located a small pick-up truck matching the description of the one involved in the disturbance that had just left the store. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the truck, but it refused to pull over. The truck proceeded to travel onto east bound I-30 at a high rate of speed, averaging between 50-100 MPH.
The truck then took the 118 exit of I-30 and stopped on the south service road. Officers then proceeded to make contact with both occupants without further incident. They were identified as Keith Stafford (22 YOA) and Madison Davis (19 YOA), both of Benton.
Both Davis and Stafford admitted to being involved in a disturbance with each other that turned physical in nature. They said it started at the store and then continued after officers got behind them. According to Davis, Stafford struck her in the face and attempted to choke her during their altercation.
The truck they were in was found to have the ignition “punched” and had been reported as stolen out of Garland County. Both subjects were subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Benton Police Department for further investigation. They were later transported to the Saline County Detention Facility for processing.
Stafford was charged with Theft by Receiving, Fleeing, Aggravated Assault, Battery 3rd Degree, Reckless Driving, Driving on Suspended License, and Fictitious Vehicle Tags. Davis is charged with Theft by Receiving. This is an on-going investigation and additional charges could be possible.
