The cooperation of Benton residents led to the identification and arrest of a suspect during a residential burglary investigation. At approximately 6:08 p.m. Tuesday, officers with the Benton Police Department responded to Gibson Street for a report of a home burglarized. Officers discovered that the home was forcibly entered and numerous items were stolen.
Detectives responded to the scene and during the investigation, they learned from several witnesses that 36-year-old Kaye Marie Pruett of Benton was noticed in the area around the time of the burglary. Detectives discovered evidence that led to Pruett being a person of interest in the case. Consensual contact was made with Pruett at her residence and during that time detectives noticed items matching the description of items reported stolen from the home on Gibson Street.
A search warrant was obtained and executed at Pruett’s residence which resulted in Pruett being taken into custody, and resulted in the recovery of items reported stolen. Pruett was taken to the Saline County Detention Center.
Pruett faces charges of 2 counts of class B felony Residential Burglary, 4 counts of class D felony Breaking and Entering, class D felony Theft of Property, and class A misdemeanor 1st degree Criminal Mischief. More charges are expected in the case pending further investigation.
