On 2/16/15, at approximately 10:08 PM, officers with the Benton Police Department responded to 2700 Silica Heights on report of a disturbance with a weapon call. While in-route to the call, officers were informed the suspect in the case was chasing the victim around the residence with a knife.
Upon their arrival, officers made contact with the victim and the suspect in the case, who was later identified as Ricky Higgs (44 YOA) of Benton. The victim in the case told officers about being in a disturbance with Mr. Higgs that turned violent with him chasing her with a knife and attempting to harm her with it. Children were also present in the home when this incident occurred.
Based on information and evidence gathered by officers, Higgs was placed under arrest and transported to the Saline County Detention Facility for processing. Higgs is charged with Aggravated Assault on a Family or Household Member and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor. This is an on-going investigation and additional charges could be forthcoming.
