Terry Fuller, the veteran officer and lieutenant of the Benton Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID), has been named the 2016 Officer of the Year. The recipient, selected by the Chief’s Committee, is an officer who made the “most significant contribution to the overall success of the police department” during the year.
Chief Kirk Lane said Lt. Fuller is not only a very deserving Officer of the Year recipient, he is well respected in the law enforcement community and across the state. The chief said 2016 was a very challenging year for CID with multiple major investigations.
“In each case, Lt. Fuller’s ability to methodically organize and his attention to detail, was a principal component of the success of these investigations,” Chief Lane said. “He also took on the responsibility to develop a Naloxone Training Course and trained every officer of the Benton Police Department. And he taught this course to several other police departments in Central Arkansas, including the Arkansas State Police.”
Lt. Fuller has more than 20 years of experience as a law enforcement officer (3-years with the Hot Spring County Sheriff’s Office and 17-years at the Benton Police Department). He also served 6-years in the U.S. Marine Corps where he earned the rank of sergeant. Lt. Fuller has attained numerous specialized training degrees, including: Expert in Blood Splatter Analysis, Crime Scene Tech, Advanced Crime Scene Tech, Narcotics Officer Certificate Program, Law Enforcement Supervision, Basic Technical Video and Surveillance Techniques, trained in Clandestine Labs, trained in dealing with hazardous materials, Hostage Negotiator, DEA task force sergeant over narcotics, & Criminal Investigations Division lieutenant.
