During the month of March, member agencies of the Central Arkansas Operation Impact Traffic Enforcement Group will conduct a month long traffic initiative focusing on speeding violations and traffic light violations.
Based on information from both National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Highway Safety Office of the Arkansas State Police speeding is one of the leading contributing factors to fatality accidents both in Arkansas and the nation. Further information from both organizations show the majority of these fatality accidents involved younger drivers. In Arkansas motor vehicle accidents is the number one cause of death among teens especially with teen drivers between the ages of 15 to 20.
Another of the top leading causes of accident involving injury or fatality occurs when drivers disregard a traffic signal (running a red light). One study showed drivers who ran red lights due to speeding tended to be younger inexperienced drivers. It further showed the older the driver of a traffic light violation, up to a certain age group, was the less likely the violation was due to excessive speeding but was the result of some other cause best summed up as a distracted driving issue. Finally it showed the oldest group of drivers in the study committed a traffic light violation because they required more time to react to the traffic light changing from yellow to red.
Again in order to help reduce the number of injury and fatality accidents and change the behavior of aggressive or distracted drivers in the Central Arkansas area members of Central Arkansas Operation Impact Traffic Enforcement Group will conduct a month long traffic initiative focusing on speeding violations and traffic light violations.
The Central Arkansas Operation Impact Traffic Enforcement Group is comprised of 16 Central Arkansas law enforcement agencies, including the Benton Police Department, which was formed due to a need to identify and discuss traffic related issues common to all member agencies and come up with a course of action to deal with the identified problem. In the end, our goal is to look out for your safety.
