Benton Police Department launched today a month-long traffic safety awareness campaign. “Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow” will include enhanced traffic enforcement with an emphasis on seat-belt use, speeding violations, DWIs, texting and driving and school zone violations. The city-wide campaign will run throughout May.

Chief Scotty Hodges noted that BNPD has been receiving numerous complaints about speeding across the city, which led to the development of this campaign.

“We have employed extra patrol and the radar trailer in several areas in an attempt to curb the repeat violations, but we’re still receiving quite a few complaints, so we are stepping up our efforts over the next month to let the community know how seriously we take traffic safety,” said Hodges.

He added that school zones, in particular, will be an area of concentration, with emphasis on distracted driving and speeding.

“We know it’s nearing the end of the school year, but that sometimes means more distraction. Saving lives is a priority at BNPD, and traffic safety enforcement is one way we can be proactive in doing so. The dangers of speeding, texting and driving, not wearing a seat belt and so many others are apparent, but we all can get complacent in the busy-ness of life and forget the great responsibility we have when behind the wheel.”

Additional campaign information will be available on BNPD social media sites throughout the month. For inquiries, contact BNPD at 501-776-5948 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
