On 6/17/14, at approximately 12:28 PM, officers with the Benton Police Department responded to the Henry Street access to the Saline River on report of a possible drowning. Upon their arrival they made contact with people there who advised that a male subject who was swimming had gone underwater and not resurfaced. In addition to personnel from the Benton Police and Fire Departments, dive teams from Grant County Fire Rescue and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission responded to assist. At approximately 2:50 PM this date, first responders located the body of the victim in the river. The victim was identified as Michael Ryan Baker (18 YOA) of Saline County.
Detectives were called to the scene and it is being treated as a death investigation, but no foul play is indicated at this time.
