REPORT OF VEHICLE DRIVING THROUGH RESIDENCE RESULTS IN ARREST

KaySkaggsOn 2/16/14, at approximately 12:01 AM, patrol officers with the Benton Police Department responded to 126 Village Drive on a report of a vehicle driving through the residence.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered that a vehicle had driven through the residence at 126 Village Dr. then it struck a van parked in the driveway.  After striking the van, the vehicle continued into the yard of 127 Village Dr. striking the support beams at the front of the residence before hitting the east wall of the home.

The Benton Fire Department responded to the scene, and helped with debris removal and assisted with helping the residents at 126 Village Dr. safely leave their home.  There were no injuries reported as a result of the accident.

The vehicle had left the area prior to officers’ arrival, but they were able to find it by following the debris trail left on the roadway.  Contact was made with the driver of the vehicle, Kay Skaggs (44 YOA), at an address on Hester Drive.  Skaggs informed officers that she blacked out and didn’t remember the accident, and that it could have to do with a medical condition she has and medication she is taking.

Skaggs was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Saline County Detention Facility for processing.  She is charged with Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree (Felony) and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.  This is an on-going investigation and additional charges could be possible.
