Benton PD Searching For Pickaxe Robbery Suspect

On 11/18/13, at approximately 5:20 AM, officers responded to the Wal-Mart Supercenter (17309 I-30) on report of a theft.  Upon their arrival, they were informed by store employees that a suspect had used force to steal an unknown amount of merchandise.
The suspect entered the store and went to the jewelry department where they used a pickaxe to break open one of the display cases.  He took an unknown amount of merchandise from the case and then ran out of the back of the store.  During the course of the incident the suspect indicated they had a gun, although one wasn’t displayed, and told employees he would shoot them if they tried to stop him.
The suspect is described as a black male wearing a blue and black plaid jacket, khaki pants and hat, ski mask, and gloves.  He was driving a newer model work style truck with toolboxes on the side and amber colored running lights on top of the cab.

The actual pickaxe used during the commission of the crime was recovered at the scene by officers.  Additional information, including picture or videos, will be released as it becomes available.
