BNPD INVESTIGATING SHOOTING INCIDENT

JamesTolandOn 9/01/14, at approximately 1:51 PM, officers with the Benton Police Department responded to 570 Latimer Drive on report of a person being shot in the back.
 
Upon their arrival, officers located a victim laying on the ground with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his back.  The victim was given medical care and airlifted via helicopter to a Little Rock hospital for treatment.  
 
A suspect, later identified as James Toland (62 YOA) of Benton, was located at the scene.  After conducting an investigation, Toland was subsequently placed under arrest.  Toland is charged with 1st Degree Battery and is currently incarcerated in the Saline County Detention Facility.
