TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS YIELD FELONY DRUG AND FIREARM CHARGES

On 9/3/15, at approximately 10:00 AM, officers with the Benton Police Department (BNPD) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at the intersection of North and Market Streets. 
 
Officers made contact with the driver, David Lane (30 YOA) of Bauxite, and a check of his license revealed he had an active felony warrant out of the BNPD. Lane was subsequently placed under arrest without incident. Officers initially located a glass pipe containing suspected Methamphetamine and a perfume bottle that had been modified to be used as a smoking device commonly used to ingest illegal narcotics.  Further investigation yielded .8 grams of suspected Methamphetamine, plastic baggies, digital scales, and a pistol.  
 
Lane was transported to the Saline County Detention Facility for processing.  Lane was charged with Driving on Suspended License, No Proof of Liability Insurance, Failure to Use Turn Signals, Felony Warrant (Delivery of Methamphetamine), Simultaneous Possession of Drugs and a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by Certain Person (Felon), Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Use of Another Person’s Property to Facilitate a Crime. This is an on-going investigation and additional charges could be possible.  
 
On 9/3/15, at approximately 10:39 AM, officers with the Benton Police Department responded to the area of Richards and South Street on report of a disturbance with a weapon call.  Upon their arrival, they made contact with two victims who told them a suspect pulled up in a car and pointed a pistol at them and threatened to kill them.  
 
Officers conducted a search of the area and eventually located the car and suspect, identified as Elgin Bowers (37 YOA) of Benton, at a residence on Cross Street.  Subsequent investigation led to the discovery of multiple plastic baggies of suspected Marijuana, a Mason jar containing marijuana (over 4 oz.), drug paraphernalia, and a pistol.  
 
Based on the evidence and information gathered, Bowers was placed under arrest and transported to the Saline County Detention Facility for processing.  Bowers was charged with Simultaneous Possession of Drugs and a Firearm, Maintaining a Drug Premises, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Deliver, Possession of a Firearm by Certain Person (Felon), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Proximity to Certain Facilities (daycare nearby), Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. This is an on-going investigation and additional charges could be possible.
