BNPD OFFICERS ARREST SUSPECT FOR 4TH DWI

AndrewPowellOn 12/9/14, at approximately 10:22 PM, officers with the Benton Police Department observed a vehicle traveling eastbound on the North I-30 Service Road under the South St. overpass, which is designated as one-way for westbound traffic only.

Eventually, officers were able to safely conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Andrew Powell (46 YOA) of Jonesboro. Based on their observations and evidence, officers subsequently placed Powell under arrest for suspicion of DWI.

Powell was transported to the Saline County Detention Facility for processing without incident. He is charged with DWI-4th Offense (Felony), Wrong Way on a One Way, Careless Driving, Drinking on the Highway, and Tampering with an Ignition Interlock Device.  The tampering charge stems from evidence suggesting a court mandated ignition interlock device on Powell’s vehicle had been bypassed.
