NO CHARGES IN RELATION TO POSSIBLE ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING

coin200On 7/21/14, officers with the Benton Police Department took a report of a possible attempted kidnapping involving a juvenile.

This incident was turned over to detectives and it was determined during the course of investigation that there wasn’t an attempted kidnapping.  After extensively interviewing the victim, a possible suspect, and witnesses it was determined that no charges were warranted in the case.

It appears the subject, who was initially listed as a suspect, was offering a ride to the juvenile and that it was a miscommunication between them due to a language barrier.  The subject in the case spoke Spanish and couldn’t adequately communicate his question to the juvenile. Additionally, no force, or the threat of force or intimidation, was found to have been used during this incident.

Although this case appears to have been non-criminal in nature, it still serves as a reminder to always be aware of your surroundings and to speak with your children about dealing with strangers.
