ATV PURSUIT LED TO ARREST OF TWO ARMED SUSPECTS

Sutterfield AshbySMALLLLLLLLLLAt approximately 12:14 p.m. Sunday, officers with the Benton Police Department attempted to stop two people on an ATV driving on Edison Avenue, Canterbury and Silica Heights. The suspects reportedly looked back at the officers but refused to stop.

Officers pursued the ATV on several streets and the suspects also drove through several off road areas, including the several residents’ properties. The ATV came to a stop in a resident’s yard on South Aaronfield and the suspects fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, officers took 22-year-old Chase Byron Ashby of Mabelvale and 21-year-old Eric Scott Sutterfield of Benton into custody.

Officers reported finding a loaded .38-caliber revolver where Sutterfield had laid on the ground and two pipes with suspected marijuana residue inside a backpack Sutterfield had in his possession. Officers also located brass knuckles in the area where Ashby was taken into custody. The ATV was found to be reported stolen out of Conway County.

Ashby and Sutterfield were each transported to the Saline County Detention Center. Ashby faces charges of Fleeing, class A misdemeanor; Carrying a Weapon, class A misdemeanor; and Theft by Receiving, class D felony. Sutterfield faces charges of Fleeing, class A misdemeanor; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, class A misdemeanor; and Carrying a Weapon, class D felony.
