SHOPLIFTING CALL RESULTS IN FOOT CHASE AND FELONY CHARGES

ZacharyCrowOn 2/10/15, at approximately 5:50 PM, officers with the Benton Police Department responded to Wal-Mart (17309 I-30) on report of a shoplifting that had occurred.  Upon their arrival, they were informed by employees that the suspect in the shoplifting had fled from the store into a wooded area nearby.

An officer searching the area near the woods observed the suspect, later identified as Zachary Crow (22 YOA) of Benton, running away from them near the I-30 South Service Road.  The officer observed that a citizen was also chasing Crow and another citizen stopped and provided the officer with a ride to the area where he was last seen.

The officer then chased Crow into the woods and located him near a creek in the area.  Crow initially resisted arrest by not complying with the officer, but was eventually taken into custody. During the chase and the struggle with Crow, the officer sustained lacerations to their body that were non-life threatening.

The suspect was then transported to the Saline County Detention Facility for processing without further incident.  Crow is charged with Robbery, Battery 2nd Degree, Fleeing on Foot, and Resisting Arrest.  Additionally, Crow was also previously arrested by our agency on the morning of 2/10/15 for a commitment warrant and had already been released when this incident occurred. This is an on-going investigation and additional charges could be forthcoming.
